Fossil Stacks 2020 - now

After collecting some fossils on a walk down the East coast of Australia guided by my father-in-law I developped an obsession with these magical stones. This obsession initially was a mix of the excitement of ‘the hunt’, the hammering of larger rocks to see what lies inside them and gazing and sheer amazement laying eyes on these objects buried for millions of years.

My fascination revolves around the age of these stones and how in comparison the duration of my life as a human is so incredibly futile. I felt an immense sense of humility caressing one of these pertified organisms in my hands. I am well aware that pretty much everything in essence is a fossil related. Somehow I started stacking these fossils on top of each other during one of the first Covid-19 lockdowns. Making and documenting these fossil stacks felt like a monumental endeavor like I was balancing and playing with history and time itself.
